We all know regular brushing extremely important to good teeth’s health. But when if you happen to consider a cosmetic treatment precisely what options are nowadays?

Wondering what you’d appear like with straight chompers and clean white teeth?

Then perhaps cosmetic dental work is worth considering.

Australian Dental Association teeth’s health committee vice-chairman Dr Michael Foley says before you think about cosmetic changes in your teeth you will need to ensure the gums and bones are healthy.

“The gums retain the teeth it is in place and frame the teeth and smile and that means you need to make sure they’re healthy first before planning on cosmetic dentistry,” Dr Foley says.

“Putting cosmetic focus on to dodgy foundations is a waste of income.”

These days you will find different options available if you want to make cosmetic dental improvements.

Orthodontic treatment

The braces of 2019 provide a lot more options than those available an era ago, when as being a “metal mouth” was the only choice.

Metal braces continue to one of the most common and effective orthodontic treatments, however many of us these days decide on options that can be less visible.

“If you’re not keen on a ‘metal mouth’ look, made to options for braces,” Dr Foley says.

One popular, less visible you can see aligners, which put gentle pressure with regards to your teeth and gradually move them straight into the ideal end position.

Other options include ceramic braces, which can be made out of a tooth-coloured porcelain and clear brackets, and lingual braces, that can be attached to the inside surfaces of the teeth rather than front.

There may vary costs involved, so request information from your dentist which option works the best for you.

Crown or bridge work

Dr Foley says many of us choose to have crowns and bridge work, composite resin fillings or porcelain facings to mend discoloured or worn teeth.

“These can be be extremely successful, yet they usually involve irreversible removing of some tooth structure, and they’ll probably need to be replaced later on,” Dr Foley says.

“No therapy permanent. When you’re having cosmetic strategy for teeth, remember the fact that those teeth won’t change colour after awhile, but surrounding teeth will.”

Tooth whitening

Tooth whitening is definitely an attractive option for people interested in have a dazzling smile.

Dr Foley explains that as the years accrue our teeth naturally darken slightly.

“Lots of tea, coffee or wine can make teeth darken a lot quicker,” he adds.

But based on him if you’re considering tooth whitening, remember that treatment effects might be long-lasting but are not permanent.

“Also Hollywood white, newsreader white and supermodel white don’t seem to be natural tooth colours, so please do not overdo it,” according to him.

Dr Foley says to find products that contain bleach or carbamide peroxide.

“Low concentration teeth whitening gels and toothpastes can be purchased in shops, as well as concentrations are accessible through your dentist and often will work more rapidly.”
