Filming the ABC documentary series Man Up about male suicide has evolved Sydney radio presenter Gus Worland’s life.
He’s now for a mission to assist in saving the lives of Australian men encountering mental illness.
Suicide is the leading cause for death for Australian men aged 15-44 years.
Gus, 48, has launched the Gotcha4Life Project, which aims to make awareness of mental medical issues among men and save lives.

The Gotcha4Life Project is backed by well-known Australians including Hugh Jackman in addition to other business leaders – when using the amazing support of founding corporate supporters, Chemist Warehouse.
Gus says Man Up revealed the devastating rate of suicide among Australian men and began a national conversation around a topic that for much too long have been considered taboo.
“We don’t especially like talking about it and there is a massive stigma around it,” Gus says. “We’ve received a problem talking about our feelings.”
Since producing the documentary, Gus continues to encourage men to say their feelings when things are troubling them.
“We could be making our teenage boys healthier inside the head by getting them to show vulnerability, and allowing that to end up being called strength rrnstead of weakness,” Gus says.
Gotcha4Life will facilitate a Lifeline Scholarship Program, provide practical information on school-based mental health teaching programs for boys, assist community initiatives to guide men’s health, and drive awareness to better men’s mental health outcomes.
“We’re about to do some really unquie work,” Gus says.

1. Lifeline Counsellor Scholarship Program
Studies show men in crisis respond far better a male counsellor. Lifeline is critically in short supply of counsellors – especially males. The Gotcha4Life Project will fund training to enhance the number of people manning the item lines at Lifeline, reduce waiting times for anyone in need of urgent assistance, and share with men more chance to speak with a trained male counsellor.
2. Gotcha4Life Schools Program
An in-school program for primary-aged boys talking about what it method for be a man in Australia. The Gotcha4Life Project will assist fund the program across the country to challenge stereotypes inclined to boys. Initially led by ‘Bloke Whisperer’ Tom Harkin, this software drives acceptance and know-how about the challenges facing males a variety of ages.
3. Gotcha4Life Start-up Program
